Want quality one way back links ? Try guest posts

Updated on July 3, 2017

Why guest posting ?

When it comes to ranking in search engines back links are the most important thing. You can do on site optimization as much as you like but if you don't have the back links you will have a hard time ranking in search engines. There are many ways to build back links and any link is better than no link , but it is generally accepted fact that links inside a blog post counts heavily towards your search engine ranking. Another thing that counts toward your search engine ranking is the anchor text associated with your link , for example if the blog that have linked to you have used the anchor text "this article" or some similar term it has very little value for search engines. That is why guest posting is such a powerful way to build quality one way back links with proper anchort text.

Benefits of guest posting

  • Quality one way back links within the post , some guest posters allow upto three links
  • Back links with the anchor text of your choice
  • Exposed to a new audience which can increase your RSS subscribers , Newsletter subscribers etc
  • Helps in branding your blog and increasing your authority within the niche
  • Gives you an opportunity to build connections with new bloggers

Places to find guest posts

There are many ways to find blog that allow guest posts , even if a blog doesn't specifically mentions it if you have being actively participating in that blog for a while and build a certain level of trust with the blogger then you can approach him or her and ask for a guest post. However if you are looking to find blogger actively seeking guest posts I can recommend two sources for you.

Blogger Link Up [ BLU ]

Blogger Link Up is definitely my favorite resource to finding guest posts , the great thing about the service is you don't have to go and search some data base to find guest posts but it is all delivered to you via e-mail. You can ask for guest posts , offer guest posts and even for products you want to be reviewed. I haven't offered guest posts but I have responded to some of the guest post needs and the results have being very very good. Also you will find some good advice to build back links and to improve your blog as a whole. Since an e-mail from them is a bit long I have added it at the very bottom so interested parties can get an idea of what to expect. Although the sending an e-mail makes it easy for members one drawback is you can browse for older requests. What I have done is create an excel based on relevant niches so I can come back and do some searching.

The Guest Blogger ( A sub group in LinkedIn )

The guest blogger is an LinkedIn sub group where you can request guest posts and offer guest posts. You need to have a LinkedIn account to use this service. For people who are not familiar with LinkedIn its network of professionals and most importantly its free to join. i have added a screen shot of the discussion area so you can get an idea of the group.

Good old Google

If you don't feel like giving away your e-mail address or don't want to join LinkedIn then you can try out searching Google. Its a bit tricky but you can find them easily enough. Try out search terms like "looking for guest blogger" , "submit your posts" etc.

If you know any other source where you can find guest posts please mention it in the comment section so I can update the hub - Thanks in Advance :)

Things to consider before writing a guest post

Before you go and write a guest post or contact some blogger to offer a guest post you should be very clear in your mind what you want to ac hive from guest posting in other blogs. In very broad terms you want to achieve two things from guest posting , its either increasing search engine rankings by building back links or increase your brand, RSS subscribers , newsletter subscribers , preferably its both.

If you want to increase search engine ranking

You should focus on finding blogs that are relevant to your niche and who already rank high for relevant search terms , usually you put up your best stuff for guest posts so it doesn't hurt to do some research first up. Since your only looking for search engine ranking you don't have to worry about adding a quality post or welcome post etc in your blog.

If you want to increase RSS subscriber , newsletter subscribers etc

In this case you need to have some quality posts alreay lined up in your blog and also you need to have an about page which clearly explains why people should subscribe to your blog. If you are looking for newsletter subscribers its good if you have some incentive like an free e-book ready for your new visitors.

Not easy , but one of the best

I hope I convinced you that guest blogging is one of the best ways to build quality one way back links of your choice and one of the best ways to attract new visitors. It is not an easy task but if you don't have big budget to spend on link building campaigns then this is one of the best ways to go about link building. Good luck with your search engine rankings :)

Sample E-mail from Blogger Link Up

Note - I have removed the e-mail address and the links to the actual blogs that have made the requests because I'm not sure I have the permission to publish them here. I have added this sample e-mail here so you can get an idea about what to expect.

P.S - Its very long , but I didn't want to mess with the content

Thanks to everyone who has been sharing their blogging challenges.
I will be addressing several of the common questions and challenges
here in BLU over the coming weeks.

Today's issue is how to encourage comments on your blog. When
readers comment it not only gets them more engaged with you and
your content, it gives your blog more life and may even help it
rank better with the search engines.

Here are a few quick tips to encourage commenting:

Ask questions. Near the end of your post, ask readers for their
opinions or what has worked for them.

Take a contrary position. Go against the conventional wisdom and be
a little controversial. This isn't right for every blog, but it can
get a lively discussion going.

Dofollow comment links. Most blogs use the "nofollow" tag in
comments, meaning that the links do not pass search engine juice.
Making your comment links "dofollow" means that more people will be
interested in commenting. You can even post your blog in dofollow
directories to encourage traffic and comments. (Of course, you will
also encourage spam comments, so you may need to moderate comments
to keep out the junk.) Get the plugin to dofollow comments on your
WordPress blog at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sem-dofollow/

Form a blogging alliance. Darren Rowse recently wrote about joining
with other bloggers who write blogs in similar niches to support
each other. One of the things alliance members do is comment on
each other's blogs. You can read more at
http://www.problogger.net/archives/2009/08/25/let-me-show-you-inside-a-secret-blogging-alliance/

Interact with commenters. Keep the conversation going. Respond to
comments readers leave on your blog. Let them know you are
listening. (This applies to your guest posts on other blogs, too.
When you guest post, watch the comments and interact with the
blogger's readers.)

Tweet your blog posts and ask your followers to share their
opinions.

Of course, in order to get comments you need to have readers. In
upcoming articles we will talk about ways to get more people to
your blog.

Don't forget to submit your requests below!

Cathy
